The Rudy Report

Qué tál kitties - it's me - RUDY! with your Rudy Report!

For some of you who remember us back when we lived in Kansas City Missouri, you may remember that Mommy volunteered at Wayside Waifs. She has missed being a part of animal rescue and adoption ever since we moved to O Hi O. We have continued to donate and help in other little ways, but something was missing for her. Well kitties, she's gone and done it again. She was approached last month to become a board member at our little local humane society. She accepted.
At this little humane society board members don't just sit and plan stuff. They mow grass, clean cages and do just about anything that is needed. And kitties, there is a lot of need. A whole lot of need. I'll probably tell you more - but for right now just know that Mommy is overwhelmed (in a good way) and busy planning how to improve the situation we have here for homeless animals in our little corner of O Hi O.
I'm happy that she's started helping again, but it's cutting into her Rudy time. I suppose it's OK, cause these animals need help. So I'm gonna suck it up and be a good mancat about all of this...

They Say It's My Birthday!

Thanks to Zoolatry - what a wonderful picture of me!
Hi there! I know I don't look a day over five, but today I become nine! So here's the deal, I'd like to celebrate with a commentaton to honor the memory of our blogosphere friends who ran off to the Bridge this week. Here's what my 'rents have agreed to do - we will donate 25 cents per comment to our favorite shelter, Wayside Waifs. And we will make the donation in memory of sweet Fat Eric, gorgeous Luxie, delicate Wintergreen and beautiful Molly. I think that they would like that, don't you? We will accept multiple comments from a family, for instance, if I commented, then Rudy came back and commented (as if the little Orange Menace could spell - HaHaHaHa!...oops, sorry), I would count that as two. The commentathon will run until August 20th 11:59 PM Eastern time. That's about it for the rules, so let's have a little fun, shall we?
If the 'rents of these wonderful kitties happen to read this - I hope your hearts begin to heal in time. All of here at Casa de Parker want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Smoochies!

Kenya

Back when we lived in Kansas City, Mommy volunteered at Wayside Waifs, Kansas City's largest humane society. The cat adoption area is where Mommy spent most of her time. Kenya is now there looking for a forever home and perhaps a chance at appearing on Biggest Loser!

A Birthday Wish

Hi Kitties, we have a favor to ask of you and your beans.
Wayside Waifs is one of the greatest shelters in the United States. Mommy volunteered there for many years when we lived in Kansas City. Many, many kitties and doggies and buns and feathers have found their forever homes because of this place.
I'd like to ask your help. The only thing Mommy wants for her birthday is for people to help Wayside. She's started a goal on her facebook page to raise some money for them. Please click here to see it. Or you can click on the photo at the right on my sidebar. Just a dollar or two would be great. Every little bit really does make a big difference to Wayside!
If you can help I would be so thrilled!
ps - Mommy has a week until she is another year older, then on the 22nd, I have a birthday too! August is a great month!
Thanks and smoochies to all of you!

Raise A Paw Contest

Gaius the Cat is having a wonderful contest. It is called Raise A Paw and when we read about it we decided that we all wanted to give it a try and enter. Well... three of us decided to enter. Powder refused to raise her paw no matter what we tried . She couldn't be coaxed, bribed or shamed into doing it. It isn't that she doesn't want to support a worthy cause, she's very shy. We love her anyway and we'll just try extra hard with our paws to make up for her refusal to perform for the camera. We chose Wayside Waifs for our special cause. Wayside Waifs is Kansas City's largest Humane Society and it helps thousands of homeless animals every year. Mommy was a volunteer there for a very long time and even though we live in O Hi O now, she still stays in touch with a lot of the wonderful people there. You can read about some of her experiences with Wayside Waifs here and here.

First we have Puff limbering up.
A 4-paw raise! Very impressive sis!
Here's her classic one-paw entry.
Rudy is confused about which paw to raise!
Oh! The front paw, OK.
Now...Gimme treat!
My photographer cuts my head out of the first shot.
Too much feather, not enough face!
Um, Mom, get your hand out of the shot!
Purrfect!

Easy Like Sunday - Anticipation

Aniticipation!
Have you met Gaius the cat yet? He and his beans are having a great contest to raise awareness about good causes. It is called Raise your Paw. The contest asks us to raise our paw for our particular good cause. I asked Mommy if I could enter because I would like to raise awareness about Wayside Waifs. Wayside is Kansas City's largest Humane Society and my Mommy volunteered there a lot when we lived in Kansas City. You can read a little about that here and here. Mommy still stays in touch with some of her friends who work and volunteer there and she is always wishing she would win the lottery or something so she could give them a squillion green papers and help them help all of the kitties and other animals who come to them when they have no where else to go.
I let Puff use the blog yesterday because I have been practicing my paw raise this weekend. I am pretty good at it because I already know how to "high five" for treats. The problem is our stupid camera. It is a cell phone camera and it isn't as fast as I am. I'm kind of glad that it is slow because it means I get a lot more treats when it screws up!
I have a question to ask you before I go off and practice some more. I have noticed that I have been getting some very strange rankings in the Top 100 Cat sites. I have been as high as 26 and as low as, well, I was off of the ranking last night and now I am at 80-something. Does anykitty know if their site is messed up? I'm thinking about just taking it off of my blog all together.

Formerly Feral Friday - Another Reason I am a Lucky Cat

Please click and watch the above video. I cannot believe that people who have no hearts or souls can walk the earth. Mommy talked to the lady in the video (her friend Jenny) and the kittens are already in foster care. They have little kitty colds, but other than that, are fine. They are friendly, not the least bit scared of people. The Wayside employee who saw it happen did not get the license plate of the vehicle 'cause she was so focused on the kennel that was thrown. I personally hope that Karma comes and whaps these people upside their head like an angry, hungry tiger.
Being formerly feral, I know that I lucked out. These kittens had a rough start too, and with all of the media attention, chances are good that they will be adopted.
So, everykitty, I know I say this a lot, but go and give your human(s) a headbump and a purr. We are fortunate to have humans who care about us.
That is all I have to say about this terrible situation.

Fur Ball - An Evening To Remember

Mommy thought you would like to see some photos of the Fur Ball. She said that there really are no words to describe what a wonderful evening it was. Over 800 guests came to party into the night. People were dressed in gowns, tuxedos, movie characters, directors and even as animals! The final amount of money that was raised will take a few weeks to nail down, but estimates are that Wayside's guests for the evening donated at least three quarters of a million dollars to help the homeless animals it cares for! That's about 3 months of operating a shelter as large as Wayside. Pretty cool, eh?

It's where the Ball was held.

The T-Shirts the volunteers wore.
Cute, eh?

The entrance to the Ball.
This car was one of 3 auctioned!

The registration area. Mommy was in the second chair
from the left. You can see Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz
was there!

Here's Dorothy again -(actually it's Wayside's President).
Her real name is Patty.

Cruella De Ville played by Kim, the volunteer
coordinator. Kim is really a lot of fun to work
with. She has a good sense of humor!

Princess Leia (Jenny, the wonderful Public
Relations person). Everyone loves Jenny!

The Wicked Witch of the West! Scary, isn't she!?!
It's really Annie, our Donor Relations lady!
And she is very nice!

The entrance to the Silent Auction Area.
See the Paparazzi? They were everywhere!

The Ballroom - before all of the guests.
That's the left side, it's huge!

Sniffany's Pet Beds!

More pet beds, I like the couch!
Mommy should have bid on it for me!

The Silent Auction area.

One of the cool movie posters.
Isn't she a lovely Meezer!?!

A kitty package in the Silent Auction!
I'll bet someone really enjoyed all that
wonderful feline goodness!

Doesn't this look like a great book?
I think Mr. Pusskins is kinda' cute!

One of the entrances.

This is Deb, the happy bartender. There were 9
other bartenders. Mommy liked her the best!
(And no, Mommy didn't hit all 10!) 3, max!

The Fur Ball in full swing!

Such a wonderful evening for the animals at Wayside. It was a lot of work for many people, but I know every single person would say it was worth it for all the Waifs - Bless the kind patrons of this year's Fur Ball!

Wayside - Fur Ball - Wow!

Mommy has to catch an early flight and leave again for O Hi O, sigh... she wanted me to tell you that she will do a full report on the Fur Ball. According to Mommy it was WONDERFUL and a sqillion dollars was raised for all the Waifs at the shelter. She said she will work on the report tonight. She said that the kindness of people makes her eyes leak and that all of us kitties who have forever homes should give a smooch to our Mommies and/or Daddies. We are the fortunate ones. Much love from me and my family from the middle of the U.S of A.

Tonight is the Big Event! Fur Ball!

The event of the year for K.C.'s largest shelter!

K.C.'s nicest people come to help out the animals!
Mommy is proud and honored to be volunteering tonight for Fur Ball. The event is the largest charity event in Kansas City and it raises enough money that it accounts for one quarter of Wayside's operating expenses every year! I think that Skeezix was a visionary earlier this year when he ran a contest that was a lot like Fur Ball! Great minds think alike! Mommy will be doing registration, silent action and the live auction. The generosity of people makes Mommy cry every year. And every cent raised goes to the animals. She has to be there at 4:00 pm and won't get home 'till after midnight. Considering this is her time to be home from O Hi O and that she has an early morning flight tomorrow, you have to know how important this event is! We don't mind sharing her 'cause it really is a very wonderful thing for Kansas City's little Waifs!
Since the theme is the A-Cat-Emy Awards, there should be a lot of people wearing their finest outfits and best bling. Mommy will try to get photos so you can see that we can dress up in the Middle of the U.S.! Maybe Skeezix will be there in his tuxedo!
