Puff - Heaven's Newest Bridge Angel

Puff (left) and Powder's First Meal at Home 5/16/1998

Rudy here - it's been a very sad time. Puff got very sick last week and made the decision to ask Mommy and Daddy to help her to the Bridge on Saturday morning. All of us thought that she'd do it her way and cross on her own, but she changed her mind and gave Mommy the "look". So, the 'rents called Puff's Vet and she said bring her in and she would help too. The vet did some prodding and found a mass in Puff's belly that she thought could be an aggressive, fast growing cancer. Cancer sux...
The 'rents have always called her the "Original Cat" because they got her from a farm barn the day after they were married. You can read that story here - Our Adoption Story
Mommy says it's a new family paradigm - the rest of us say smaller words like, it sux! The Vet said that Puff indeed was ready to cross to the Rainbow Bridge. Mommy and Daddy were there with her, stroking her fur and looking in her eyes telling her how much she was loved and that it was OK to go. It took less than 5 seconds, Puff was gone - I guess she was in a hurry to see Parker and Diamond and Jordan and Payton.
Our home seems different, there is still a lot of love, but there is some sad too. We all spent the weekend grieving our loss and trying to make the 'rents feel better. I guess it will just take time for our hearts to start to heal.
A Beautiful Girl - and She Knew It!

Puff is currently at Wayside Waifs - her remains will be cremated and she'll return to us later this week. We know that her earthly remains are in very good hands. When she comes home, she'll rest next to Parker Pie's remains.

The good news is that the rest of us seem to be quite healthy, Powder is the same age as Puff and she runs around like a little nut.I am still a healthy large and in charge Man Cat and Rickey Tiki Tavi tries to be just like me. He has a way to go if I do say so myself.

Puff did enjoy the 'Nip...

Kharma kitty is a sweet gentle girl - she so reminds us of Parker Pie - the resemblance is strong, but her personality is all her own. She's a loving, sorta quiet kitty who has become best friends with Rickey Tiki Tavi and (GASP!) Fletcher!

Happier Holidays...

Such A Floofy Girl!

The 'rents are going to leave her stocking up - we know that in spirit, she will be with us over the holiday season.

I wish Mommy's camera was better back then!

I'm going to leave you with a few more shots of the Puffster. Mommy said her beauty was only surpassed by her loveliness...

I'll just say, she was a pretty awesome feline...

The Rudy Report

Full of 'Nip and 'tude
Ola kitties, it's me - RUDY! with your Rudy Report! Remember me? Good! I am doing fine, we've been in a dark place for a few months with losing our Parker and it's been hard to find something positive to report. But I told the 'rents that we need to focus on the here and now, and the here and now is full of good things. Here's some of them -
  • I am awesome!
  • The calico sisters have had their geezer geriatric wellness checks and they are both in tip top shape.
  • Diamond is doing well, he did have to start taking more medicine for his achy bones. It helps him a lot. He still likes to bark at the guy in the bloo shorts. He's convinced that the guy is going to steal our stuff!
  • Mommy got a pretty silver necklace that she put Parker's Hello Kitty collar charm on - it makes her feel closer to Parker and that makes her feel better.
  • Our little shelter keeps on keeping on. Mommy has been spending a lot of time trying to help them be more and more successful. We think it's working (a little bit...)
  • A lot of you donated to the shelter in memory of Parker. There are no words to thank you for your kindness. We know that it must of made our angel Parker very happy that she helped many kitties find their forever home. She was a big fan of a forever home : )
  • Me and Puff and Powder are still sort of working out the new kitty order of things. Our behaviors are changing and Puff and I seem to be tied in the spot for Alpha kitty. We may decide to share the role. Powder is happy to be the itty bitty kitty. Diamond just wants to keep the "Paw of Death" a distant memory.
  • We have a new introoder - He's a nice looking male who the 'rents are feeding outside. Daddy named him Jack. As soon as Mommy gains a little more trust he gets a car ride to the vet for tests and a neuter. Poor fellow. I'll make Mommy get a good photo. Right now he's a little skittish. I would be too if my bits were about to vanish! Then he goes to the shelter to find a forever home. Jack has a whole new future in front of him! Some of you may be thinking - "maybe Jack should live here." Ummmmm, I vote NO! I am the only mancat in this household!
  • The 'rents are going on vacation away from us in almost a year. Our awesome sitter will be here to take great care of us. The 'rents deserve some time away.
So, that's the report. I've missed all of you. I'll leave you with a few cool photos.

Puff says "Time to replace the cardboard"

We miss you so very, very much. Two months ago today...

She's A (Healthy) Beauty!

I am happy to report that Puff (and Powder) had excellent reports from their geezer check-ups this week. Dr. Joe said that they are doing great! Puff celebrated by posing for the 'rents in the sun. Powder has been celebrating for a few days by eyeing the 'rents suspiciously from under the bed. (She's getting over it now...)

Thirteen Years or Thirteen Months?

Puff plays like a kitten, inhales nip, loves stinky goodness, along with a good lap to sit on and a brush through her floof. Will still deliver a wicked smack-down to her siblings and purrs like there is no tomorrow. She's the epitomy of a cat, gorgeous, mysterious, aloof and loving all at the same time. She and her sister Powder head to the vet on Monday for their geezer check-ups. Mommy still has a hard time believing that they are over 13 years old. Daddy thinks that it's her good Southwest Kansas genes.

The Very Last Thing You See...

...before Puff gives Rudy the smackdown. Notice Puff's raised paw and her tongue sticking out in concentration. Rudy is looking a little too smug for her taste. He may be bigger, but she. is. the. queen.
None of us should ever forget that...

The Puffster

What did you say they're gonna' do to me?!?

I believe you all know my big sister Puff. She's gorgeous and she knows it. A while back we wrote about her "eye speckles" and through the years they have become larger. Her sight is fine and she still acts like a kitten. Next month Puff and Powder are due for their annual geezer geriatric check-ups. On the list of questions Mommy will be asking is for them to check out the eye speckles. In her past wellness checks our vets have said to just watch and as long as there are no symptoms of Puff having eyesight troubles (or any other issues), we'll just continue to monitor it.
Geezer Geriatric wellness checks are much more extensive than younger kitty wellness checks. Blood panels are run and the physical exam is much more extensive. Since the Puffster is 13 years old, she has to be subjected to more pokes and prods and up close and personal stem to stern checks.
Yeah, she can't wait...

Farewell to the Fireplace

Puff is a kitty who enjoys a good Hammick in front of the fireplace. It's really more of an addiction. If she hears the fireplace kick on, she comes a-runnin'. It's still chilly enough here in O Hi O for a fire in the evening and Puff is making the most of it. Soon she will have to endure months of no fireplace to warm her teenaged floof and bones. She makes herself feel better about all of this by remembering that it's almost deck time!

Yay!

Double Yay!

Happy 13th Birthday Puff and Powder!

Here are my two oldest sisters, fresh from the farm and enjoying their first meal at home. Their dog-brother at the time, a wonderful, happy and silly Golden Retriever named Jordan, was being kept at a safe distance. We did not want Puff and Powder to have little tiny kitten heart attacks right away. Jordan was 20 times their size and so friendly he probably would have licked them to death! (Notice that Powder has her face in the food leaving no room for Puff - Powder has always enjoyed her food...always!)
If you would like to read their Gotcha' Day story - it's right here!
Puff has a serious case of the cutes

Powder would always hide behind her sister.

1998 - about 8-9 weeks old. SQUEEEE~!

Powder's tough look - 10 years old

We love you very much girls, Smoochies!
Look what Zoolatry made for us! We are going to frame it for Mommy's office. We hope you have enjoyed this little celebration of the calico gals journey into beeing teenagers! I'll be forever grateful to them for blazing a trail for the rest of us kitties. I'm proud to be in their family!

The Rudy Report

Hi De Ho kitties, it's me - RUDY! with your Rudy Report! The deep-freeze in O Hi O is stubborn and keeps making appearances. It even snowed again yesterday...so the only thing to do is huddle up, forget our differences and stay warm. Puff and I rarely see eye to eye, but butt-to-butt, we don't do so bad. Mommy stayed out in the kitchen and made turkey thighs for dinner! And yes, we got littles tastes of it. Nommy!

Diamond is feeling a little crowded.
The Buttz family.
Mommy did something for her health on Friday. She had a colonoscopy. She's fine, and we want to tell all of you beans that for your health, if you are over 50, you ought to do the same thing! Wow, that's a lot about buttz in one post! HaHaHaHaHa!
ps - Purrs to our buddy Mickey, please go and leave a comforting word for him and his Mom.

Puff's Happy Place

There is a radiator in daddy's bathroom that warms the entire tile floor and I have claimed it as mine. It's 1 degree outside and about a squillion degrees in here. Just the spot to warm the ol' floof and bones. I will not share this spot with my sibs. That's just how I roll...
