Puff - Heaven's Newest Bridge Angel

Puff (left) and Powder's First Meal at Home 5/16/1998

Rudy here - it's been a very sad time. Puff got very sick last week and made the decision to ask Mommy and Daddy to help her to the Bridge on Saturday morning. All of us thought that she'd do it her way and cross on her own, but she changed her mind and gave Mommy the "look". So, the 'rents called Puff's Vet and she said bring her in and she would help too. The vet did some prodding and found a mass in Puff's belly that she thought could be an aggressive, fast growing cancer. Cancer sux...
The 'rents have always called her the "Original Cat" because they got her from a farm barn the day after they were married. You can read that story here - Our Adoption Story
Mommy says it's a new family paradigm - the rest of us say smaller words like, it sux! The Vet said that Puff indeed was ready to cross to the Rainbow Bridge. Mommy and Daddy were there with her, stroking her fur and looking in her eyes telling her how much she was loved and that it was OK to go. It took less than 5 seconds, Puff was gone - I guess she was in a hurry to see Parker and Diamond and Jordan and Payton.
Our home seems different, there is still a lot of love, but there is some sad too. We all spent the weekend grieving our loss and trying to make the 'rents feel better. I guess it will just take time for our hearts to start to heal.
A Beautiful Girl - and She Knew It!

Puff is currently at Wayside Waifs - her remains will be cremated and she'll return to us later this week. We know that her earthly remains are in very good hands. When she comes home, she'll rest next to Parker Pie's remains.

The good news is that the rest of us seem to be quite healthy, Powder is the same age as Puff and she runs around like a little nut.I am still a healthy large and in charge Man Cat and Rickey Tiki Tavi tries to be just like me. He has a way to go if I do say so myself.

Puff did enjoy the 'Nip...

Kharma kitty is a sweet gentle girl - she so reminds us of Parker Pie - the resemblance is strong, but her personality is all her own. She's a loving, sorta quiet kitty who has become best friends with Rickey Tiki Tavi and (GASP!) Fletcher!

Happier Holidays...

Such A Floofy Girl!

The 'rents are going to leave her stocking up - we know that in spirit, she will be with us over the holiday season.

I wish Mommy's camera was better back then!

I'm going to leave you with a few more shots of the Puffster. Mommy said her beauty was only surpassed by her loveliness...

I'll just say, she was a pretty awesome feline...

November is National Diabetes Month!

Hi kitties - Ricky Tiki Tavi here and I want to ask you a huge favor. My Mommy told me that every November Parker would take a stand against the awful, rotten, crummy disease of Diabetes. So I thought it might be a good idea if I continued in her tradition. The wonderful Zoolatry lady made these sidebars for us. When Mommy saw what she had created, her eyes got very, very leaky. After she dried her tears, we decided to ask all of you to share this sidebar on your blog.
You see, Parker always wished for a cure for Diabetes as Mommy has the no good disease. I want the same thing. So if you would, help spread the word that a cure must be found.
Last week it was 5 months since Parker Pie left for the bridge. My family misses her very much, but the good news is that they are so happy that I have arrived. I help fill the hole that Parker left in their hearts.
Mommy is super, super busy helping the animals at our little shelter. She always tells me how very lucky I am, but I already know that. Rudy and the Calico gals are learning to love me - kinda. I want to play all of the time, and they don't always like my advances. Rudy is a great wrestling buddy. He kinda likes to throw down with me. The Calico gals, not so much. Puff throws a mean left swat and a pretty big hiss. She still holds the "Queen of Everything" title. Powder just gives me the stink eye and runs away. Diamond just sighs and stays out of my way. He's pretty smart for a dog.
I went and saw Dr. Joe for my rooster shots last week. I am happy to report that I am healthy and have gained 1 pound and 1 ounce since my visit three weeks earlier! Mommy says I am growing before her very eyes. I am sleek and shiny and very, very handsome. I'm called the little house panther!
I hope you are all doing well. We all love and miss you.
Love and Hugs,
Ricky-Tiki-Tavi

She's A (Healthy) Beauty!

I am happy to report that Puff (and Powder) had excellent reports from their geezer check-ups this week. Dr. Joe said that they are doing great! Puff celebrated by posing for the 'rents in the sun. Powder has been celebrating for a few days by eyeing the 'rents suspiciously from under the bed. (She's getting over it now...)

Thirteen Years or Thirteen Months?

Puff plays like a kitten, inhales nip, loves stinky goodness, along with a good lap to sit on and a brush through her floof. Will still deliver a wicked smack-down to her siblings and purrs like there is no tomorrow. She's the epitomy of a cat, gorgeous, mysterious, aloof and loving all at the same time. She and her sister Powder head to the vet on Monday for their geezer check-ups. Mommy still has a hard time believing that they are over 13 years old. Daddy thinks that it's her good Southwest Kansas genes.

The Very Last Thing You See...

...before Puff gives Rudy the smackdown. Notice Puff's raised paw and her tongue sticking out in concentration. Rudy is looking a little too smug for her taste. He may be bigger, but she. is. the. queen.
None of us should ever forget that...
