November is National Diabetes Month

Parker Pie hated Diabetes and so does Ricky Tiki Tavi. Mommy has that crummy disease and it sux! Please continue Parker's tradition and post this your blog and share all over the place. Pray for a cure!
Smoochies from the bridge from Parker and hugs from Ricky Tiki Tavi!
And thanks to Zoolatry for the awesome design!

November is National Diabetes Month!

Hi kitties - Ricky Tiki Tavi here and I want to ask you a huge favor. My Mommy told me that every November Parker would take a stand against the awful, rotten, crummy disease of Diabetes. So I thought it might be a good idea if I continued in her tradition. The wonderful Zoolatry lady made these sidebars for us. When Mommy saw what she had created, her eyes got very, very leaky. After she dried her tears, we decided to ask all of you to share this sidebar on your blog.
You see, Parker always wished for a cure for Diabetes as Mommy has the no good disease. I want the same thing. So if you would, help spread the word that a cure must be found.
Last week it was 5 months since Parker Pie left for the bridge. My family misses her very much, but the good news is that they are so happy that I have arrived. I help fill the hole that Parker left in their hearts.
Mommy is super, super busy helping the animals at our little shelter. She always tells me how very lucky I am, but I already know that. Rudy and the Calico gals are learning to love me - kinda. I want to play all of the time, and they don't always like my advances. Rudy is a great wrestling buddy. He kinda likes to throw down with me. The Calico gals, not so much. Puff throws a mean left swat and a pretty big hiss. She still holds the "Queen of Everything" title. Powder just gives me the stink eye and runs away. Diamond just sighs and stays out of my way. He's pretty smart for a dog.
I went and saw Dr. Joe for my rooster shots last week. I am happy to report that I am healthy and have gained 1 pound and 1 ounce since my visit three weeks earlier! Mommy says I am growing before her very eyes. I am sleek and shiny and very, very handsome. I'm called the little house panther!
I hope you are all doing well. We all love and miss you.
Love and Hugs,
Ricky-Tiki-Tavi

Parker Pie Speaks

Hey kitties - what's up? I'm feeling good enough to give you an update today. The radiator is warm and I have a belly full of Stinky Goodness. The 'rents are taking it easy today, so there is a lot of lap time in my future. I am in no pain and most of the time I just wander around the homestead and meow at the 'rents to give me food and treats. Most of the time it works - they are such suckers...
As you can see, I'm skinny as a super-model. I guess I could go to Hollywood and be a superstar with my own talkshow and I could star in movies - I should have gotten in touch with Puss-In-Boots, I bet I would have made a great leading lady...
Smoochies to all of you - I so very much appreciate your thoughts and comments and prayers. I also appreciate those of you who are displaying my Diabetes banner. Mommy appreciates it too - you see, she has Diabetes, not me. I know some of you kitties thought that I had it - but nope, at least I don't have that.
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
You are all so kind.

The Rudy Report

Hey kitties - it's ME - RUDY! With your Rudy Report. I am trying very hard to be a good big brother to Parker. As you can see I let her nap next to me in front of the warm and toasty fire. The 'rents are proud of me because I hardly ever tease or chase her. She still has her famous appetite, but she is still skinny. She does not walk fast but she can still jump up on the sofa and radiators. The bed is a little high for her now, so Daddy carries her up the stairs and helps her on to the bed. She still enjoys sleeping by the 'rents heads all night long. She's in no pain, but Mommy says that she is slowly beginning to fade. We all make the most of our time together and Parker loves it when Mommy shares her dinner with her. I think that is the favorite time of the day for her. We thank you for your kind comments, prayers, purrs and encouraging emails. They brighten our days. We also thank you for supporting Parker's hissing and swatting out Diabetes - what a wonderful thing to do!
Soon it will be the day where mommy makes turkey - now that's one of my favorite days!
Keep those tails high kitties and keep praying for my little sis - she plans on being around for a long time. We pray that she gets her wish.
Smoochies from Parker! Purrs from me!

Diabetes Month - We Have A Favor To Ask

I may be feeling poorly, but I still have the energy to hiss and swat at the awful disease of Diabetes. I'd like to ask all of my kitty pals to post this on their sidebar for the month of November to increase Diabetes awareness. Diabetes is a rotten, expensive, time consuming and stupid disease that needs to be wiped off the face of the earth and sent down to basement cat.
I'd like to send special smoochies to Zoolatry who designed this great sidebar.
So please kitties, if you can, help me raise awareness.
Smoochies to all of you - I love you all!

Please Help Me Raise Awareness For Diabetes!

While my brother Rudy is recuperating from his horrible ordeal (he's a little better, but still doesn't feel as fine and frisky as the 'rent's would like), I'd like to ask that you put this sidebar up for the month of November. I have posted three sizes for you to choose from. And if you'd link to The American Diabetes Association, I'd be ever so happy! I talked about Mommy's struggle with this awful disease here and helping us find a cure would be a most awesome thing! Diabetes sux.Thank you so very much.
I'd also like to ask that you keep that little orange menace in your thoughts. He might be a pain in my tail, but he's fun to have around.
Smoochies and thanks to all of you rockin' kitties and woofies!

I Have A Flavor

Me - trying to look sweet and convincing (is it working?)

Well kitties, some of you know that my Mom has Type II Diabetes and I can tell you that it is no fun for her to have it. It effects her life in ways that you may not even imagine. Between the monitoring, the medicine, the pokes, the prods, the food she should not eat, the regular doctor visits, the expense and the worry about how this will impact her health in other ways, well, I just want to find Diabetes and poop on it's pillow! But what would be even better is if we could find a way to cure it and make it go far, far away and leave all of us alone. So I have a little favor to ask all of you - for the month of November would you please take this cool Diabetes awareness pic (thank you Zoolatry!) and put it on your sidebar? Pretty please with Splenda on it?

Parker says "Diabetes Sux!" Srsly.

Thank you - from the bottom of my furry little heart.

Thanks to all of you who are posting my badge to raise awareness for Diabetes!
Smoochies!

Wordy Wednesday

Remember this?

How about this one?

Hi kitties, I have a big 'ol favor to ask all of you. You may or may not know that my Mommy has Diabetes. It's an awful thing to have and it sux. She's lucky that she has good health care and she works very hard to keep her blood sugars under control. But there is no cure for Diabetes...yet. The most wonderful Zoolatry made 2 banners for the month of November to help raise awareness during November which is National Diabetes Month. If you would put one on your sidebar we would appreciate it very much! There is a large one and a small one.

It even has my cute little mug on it!

Please and thank-you!

Tattle Tail Tuesday - The "D" Word

OK, OK, I admit it, I do need to lose a few ounces. I do need to play and move more. It's good for my health. But, I know the real reason we are being subjected to this - it's Mommy. She has gained some weight and SHE has gone on a diet too! This means that SHE has to exercise as well. What does that mean for me (aside from my diet and exercise torture)? It means that she is going to have less time to help me type and comment and stuff and this has me a little sad. So kitties, it isn't that I don't love to visit and comment and be a part of the Blogosphere, but I'm going to have to be around a little less. It's important for my health and for Mommy's health. We have to be mindful of her Diabetes and we don't want that getting any worse.
The good news about all of this? She's spending more time with us playing feather and Cat Dancer and chase the mousies. And Mommy time is a very good thing.
I'll be around when I can kitties - but now it's important to focus on our health in O Hi O!
Healthy Smoochies,

Sunday Stuff With Awards

First of all, you kitties rock! I want to thank every one of you for displaying the American Diabetes Awareness widget on your sidebars. A cure for this rotten disease is something we pray for. So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I am also kind of happy that the Halloween stuff is disappearing. Good bye little pumpkins and scary hanging stuff and the entire 9 trick-or-treaters that came to our home. Yup, we only had 9 trick-or-treaters. Mommy and Daddy were disappointed that there were so few. Now we have about a squillion bags of candy in the house. Mommy does not eat it and Daddy can't eat a squillion bags of candy. I heard talk of it going to a shelter for women. Fine with me, I don't care for sweet stuff.
The Chicago Bears play the Detroit Lions (aka The Motor City Kitties) today. We are a house divided. Don't tell Daddy, but I hope the kitties win!
And there is something very strange going on here...I'll show you guys tomorrow.
Lookie! See what I was given?

I was given this pretty award by Sweet Lovely Ariel
Isn't that so thoughtful of her - thank-you very much!

And the most handsome and charming Tristan bestowed this award to me.
Thank you kind sir!

Diabetes Sux!

Hi Everykitty!
I have a favor to ask of you. I would like to raise awareness about Diabetes. November is national Diabetes month and my good pals at Zoolatry helped me make a badge and a very cool header to remind us that Diabetes is a terrible, sneaky, rotten disease that robs us of our health and our time and our money. You can read a lot about it here. My Mommy has had Diabetes for almost five years and she really hates it. I'd love nothing more than finding a cure for Diabetes and making it go away forever. It's worse than a pack of mean dogs standing in a sea of vacuum cleaners!
So here is the favor - please put my badge on your sidebar so that beans are reminded to take care of themselves (and us!). Eat healthy, exercise, reduce stress and take your medicines if you should. Make sure if you do have Diabetes to check your blood glucose every day! If you beans don't take care of yourselves, you won't be able to take care of us kitties! And that would be awful!
Thanks so very much from the bottom of my kitty heart!
Love and smoochies,

Medical Monday

I have to "sharpen" my nursing skills today, Mommy woke up in the middle of the night and was sicky. It's couch duty for me today!

Formerly Feral Fudge - The Recipe!

Mommy has been making this recipe for years and she loves it because it is easy and quick and beans really seem to enjoy it. She made 30 pounds of it this weekend for the big party next weekend. Each batch makes 3 pounds. Does anyone else see the irony in a women with Diabetes making so much of something she can't eat?
Formerly Feral Fudge
3/4 Cup Butter (1 1/2 Sticks)
3 Cups Baker's Sugar (don't use regular sugar!)
2/3's Cup Evaporated Milk
12 Ounces of Chocolate Chips
1 Jar (7 ounces) Marshmallow Creme
1 tsp. Vanilla

Lightly grease a 13x9 pan
Microwave butter in a 4 Quart microwavable bowl or casserole dish on high until the butter is melted (about 1 minute).
Add sugar and milk, mix well.
Microwave on high for 5 minutes, stirring after 3 minutes, scrape bowl & mix well.
Microwave on high for 5 and a 1/2 minutes, stirring after 3 minutes.Gradually stir in chips until melted.Add remaining ingredients, mix well. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Cool at room temperature. Cut into 1 inch squares and enjoy!
Mommy says it keeps in the fridge for 2 weeks and if you want to add nuts or anything else like catnip - go ahead! She leaves the nuts out 'cause Daddy doesn't like them. She leaves the catnip out cause we don't like to eat fudge with our catnip!
Daddy helped her cut them into pieces and place them into goody bags! Each bean can take a bag home to enjoy after the party.

Rudy assisted by sitting in the kitchen window looking cute.

Thursday 13 - Stuff I Want To Say

I have a lot of stuff to say today. I decided to make it a Thursday 13.

  • First of all, I love you guys. The Diabetes sidebar that many of you are sporting means so much to me and my family. Don't misunderstand, just 'cause my Mommy has Diabetes doesn't mean she doesn't lead a full, happy life. Diabetes just makes her have to take medicine, watch what she eats and poke herself with a needle to check her bloods. It's a sneaky, expensive pain-in-the tail disease. Take good care of yourselves, you really don't want to get Diabetes! That's enough about that!
  • Isn't this photo wonderful? I really like it. It brings out my love eyes and my pretty furs. It's a good thing I am not too much in love with myself
  • My Mommy has to travel for her work again. She flies off this morning. What could possibly be in Atlanta that is more important than me?
  • The Kitty Kookie recipe is easy. You go to a store and find a pre-mix (dry) and add water. The brand is Krusteaz. It rocks! Daddy says it is the yummiest brand. Mommy wouldn't know as she can't eat them. See #1.
  • The kitties whiskers are made with black licorice. It requires a razor, patience and a glass or two of wine. Daddy is the whisker maker. He is very artistic.
  • I have discovered the joy of radiators. They are warm. They make great nappy spots.
  • We do not have enough Gizzy quilts. There have been great disputes over the two we have in front of the living room fireplace. We do not share well. Not at all. We all want to lay on the Gizzy quilts and nap at the same time. It has caused some loud, hurtful hissy fits. I am kind of proud to say that I gave Rudy a BooBoo! It is usually the other way around.
  • We all got to go out on the deck last Sunday afternoon to say farewell to getting to go out on the deck. Even Puff. She was very well-behaved and did not try to escape. Both Mommy and Daddy came out with us just in case she did. Daddy might screen in the bottom of the fences on the deck next Spring.
  • Rudy has to go to the V.E.T. this month. November is his month. Mommy tries to spread us out through the year. He needs a dental AND a poodle butt cut. His breath is getting stinky AND his furs are BAD! He's like a Rasta cat now. He refuses to let Mommy groom him and now he has some pretty wicked-bad matts around his butt. I'm ready to make some serious fun of him. I know, I know, it isn't nice of me, but he can really be a pain!
  • Mommy forgot to buy Temptations this week. We had none for an ENTIRE EVENING! I think this needs to be reported to some agency or something.
  • Try as we might, we can't get Powder to Raise a Paw. We may have to post without her. She's such a shy little flower.
  • Mommy said that we are going to have a bean party at our house in about a month. She warned me that they are inviting 120 humans here. I am quite distressed about this. She said we will be safe in the spare bedroom and don't have to witness this awful invasion of our space.
  • I learned that if you place your paw in just the right place on the TV remote you can wake your beans up by making the volume very, very loud. I highly recommend trying this. Especially at night. In bed. HA!

ps - our prayers go to Icon's family - we are so sorry for your loss of Chloe!
