Puff: Here's a tip - don't make my mommy mad...
Whoo-Boy kitties, Mommy doesn't get on a rant too often, but yesterday she went to town! She got into a discussion at her work place about spaying and neutering pets. A lady was talking about her kitty that had just had a litter of kittens (her fourth litter!) and how she was concerned that they would not be able to find homes for the new kittens. Mommy asked the lady if she had ever considered spaying her cat to prevent this from happening again. (Insert crickets chirping here...). Apparently spaying a cat in this lady's opinion would cost too much. (Insert more Crickets chirping)...Mommy took a deep breath and proceeded to educate this lady on the cost of not spaying her kitty. AND went on to give her the facts about letting her kitty roam around outside. I won't give you the gory details about what Mommy really wanted to say to this lady, but I will tell you that Mommy has offered to pay to have the lady's kitty spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned.
I hope the lady takes Mommy up on her offer. I know I was a "loose kitty" before I came to live with our 'rents, but I have to say that there are too many unloved and unwanted cats in this world to stay quiet when beans don't consider the consequences of not spaying and neutering!
To all of you beans reading this - don't be silent - speak up for us 'cause we can't bean-speak for ourselves!

That kind of talk makes my mom get all in a tizzy too! Especially when you consider in our area there are really good low cost options...coupons for even lower cost options, agencies that will help pay, on and on and on. The cost of not doing it is too great. Good for your mom!
I feel sorry for kitties like that. It was nice of your bean to make that offer.
Puff, we hate ta say it but our momma has made herself foaming at the mouth when she hears about folks who don't spay and neuter and let their animals breed for no good reason at all. Our momma knows about all the animals that need homes and all that die when they can't find homes. Our momma is on your momma's side 100%.
I have offered to help my sister pay for having all her farm cats fixed!
Good for your mom. It's tough to not just get mad at these people and think it's hopeless. It's much better to try to reason with them and offer to help even though it's so hard to be civil! Maybe if these people hear it enough they'll smarten up so you're right, it's always worth a try.
Don't even get my mum started on irresponsible people like that. You will see the smoke come out of her ears all the way over there!
Huffle Mawson
We're proud of your Mom speaking up like that and we will do the same. That other norty lady is irresponsible and should be smacky pawed.
We think that lady should have to get a license to have a brain! Mommy Helen rocks!!
Thank you for telling us about Blossom...we are very touched by her story and read all of her blog...
Your mum is a legend. We hope the lady lets her kitty get some help.
Mum is not a particularly aggressive person, but she came very close to punching a man at the shelter once, who had a similar attitude. She is in awe of the self control of the staff who don't get a break from those douchbags.
Good for your mum! Our mum gets mad about it too and has had 'discussions' with people who don't get their cats fixed. Our dad's mum had lots of cats and only used to get the mancats neutered, so of course all the cats from all around used to come visiting and there were always kittens being born. Our mum used to try and get her to have the females spayed but she used to say that it was better for the cats to have the kittens (???). When she died, our Beans looked after all the cats and first thing they did was got the females spayed. Our Kitty YumBum was from the last litter to be born.
Oh don't get our mom started!!! We can't believe how some people think!!! ARGH!!
:( there are a great many beans who won't do it because of cost. :( poor kitties.
My mom had a similar discussion with a woman who had a male and female cat, but thought it was too expensive to get them spayed and neutered. Mommy offered to pay for the procedures, but the woman wasn't interested. Then when the female cat got pregnant, the woman said she was going to take her to the shelter. Mommy was horrified, and finally convinced the woman not to do it. The woman agreed to let Mommy find homes for the kittens after they were born and pay for the spay and neuter...but the lady ended up giving the female cat away to someone else before the kittens were born, so she could live as a barn cat. We hope the kitty's new person does the responsible thing and gets her spayed, and we really hope that the woman doesn't get any more kitties.
That makes our mommy's blood boil. One of her friends called her last week saying her cat (whom she was supposed to have spayed last year) had a litter of kittens and says, "what do I do now?" UGH!!! Why are people so irresponsible?
Bless your mom for offering to spay the kitty even thought it is not her problem or responsibility!
Oh good grief. We are so glad that your Mommy offered to spay that poor cat. Yes, our Maw would be boiling in-centz-ed too.

Yes, I think some people just don't have their purriorities in the right place! It does not cost all that much to get a kitty spade or neutered. It's very generous of your mom to offer to do it, but something tells me this lady won't take her up on it.
I think it's more apathy than anything. I hate to say it, but my own brother has male cats roaming around who have not been neutered, and I have tried to talk sense into him many times about it, but it's like talking to a brick wall.
Hello Puff, you gorgeous kitty, you! Oh our meowmie is absolutely seething...there are far too many people who don't worry about anything until after the kittens are born, and by then it's too late...another 6 or 7 innocent kittens who might or might not find a home. Your mom was very generous to offer to get the co-worker's cat spayed and we absolutely would've done the same thing. We have an ethical dilemma of a neighbor with an unneutered male cat (Skittles) that we wrote about before. He goes for walks with his family! So Meowmie asked the woman whether she was planning on getting him fixed...and she said she wanted to, but the place she works is closing next week and she'll be out of a job. So of course she needs every last penny for her family... Should Meowmie offer to get him fixed? The family probably needs the money for food and clothes for the school kids...
i'm more and more convinced that people's shortsighted fiscal thinkin is gonna be the end of us all.
We hope that lady takes your Mommy up on her offer. So many poor kitties don't have homes already, we don't need more in this world.
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
YAY for your mommy!!!!!
We sure do hope that lady does take yer mommy up on her offer! We have these humans that live next door and have "9" bowls of food outside for the "ferals". NINE!!! Keep in mind, we live in the Pocono Mountains of PA, and there's bear, raccoons, possums, and all sorts of other creatures who are looking for food as well. Plus, these cats just keep breeding and breeding. Everytime we go to the feed store, we look to see if they have traps (they're always out of them) so we can trap them to spay/nueter them. We've asked these people NUMEROUS times to sto but they don't listen! And since it's finally starting to get hot/humid, the urine smell is overpowering! Sometimes people are just plain'ole'DUMB!
My person has talked with folks at work and other places too! Stooopid people who won't spay and neuter their pets!!
Tell your Mommy, well done! Sadly there are too many of us who don't have a home!
You tell 'em, Puff's Mommy! It is always less expensive and much kinder to neuter... not to mention giving a healthier life to the cats and dogs!
Even if you don't have lots of money, save each month ... or find a clinic that does it for low costs ... that's what I did when I had a limited income ... I just don't get people sometimes
Your mom is furry furry smart...it shows the khanine owner in her ;-)
Why oh why do hoomans 'think' like that?
Oh wait: THEY DON'T!
Way to gooooo Diamond's Mom!
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra
Your Mommy is very smart and that other lady....not so much!!!!!
Love, uSSSSS
Your mom rocks, Puff! Spaying and neutering is SO important!!!
Play bows,
Zim
Oh my....that's just sad and scary, all at the same time. We're happy that your momma spoke up to try and help. We hope the lady listens.
Purrs and hugs,
The Kitty Krew
Good for your mom for speaking up. We agree that there are too many of us that are unwanted. The ASPCA here has low cost spay and neuter clinics a couple of times a month.
Tavi, Cody, Camie, Miss Jade and Gracie
Hooray for your mom! It's hard to believe there are people who still do not understand the importance of spaying and neutering.
I know just what you mean. It makes mums blood boil when she hears people say " aw we cant deprive of hi man hood ) etc. Mum gats mad and tells them that is so not true and makes for a better nature. You are so right we should speak up.
Hugs GJ xx
Oooh, that's a topic that hisses off Mama, too. Yay for your Mom doing the right thing! She rocks!
Love,
Tazo
Apparently spaying a cat in this lady's opinion would cost too much.
Let's hope the owners of the kittens from the previous 3 litters and this current litter, don't feel the same way.
This is a topic that Jen feels strongly about as well! There are too many kitties in this world that need homes. I'm glad that your mom stood up and fought for all of us, especially those of us that were born feral!
Your mum did a good thing, the other bean doesn't have a clue. Mum said 'penny wise and pound foolish'.
That's very nice of your mom. I hope the lady takes her up on her offer.
We could not agree more, Puff dear. There are too many unwanted cats (& dogs) now, without bringing more into the world. What's wrong with that woman!!
Your Mommy rocks! Our Gramma has paid for several of a neighbor's cats to get spayed and neutered. What is it about some people?! Our Mom totally agrees with your Mom. And don't get our Mom started on the topic of declawing ... Just yesterday she "grossed out" a coworker who did not understand that declawing means amputation of the last digits of a cat's toes. Mom HATES that people use the euphemism of "declawing". Grrrrr.
