A Forever Home For The Holidays

I'm asking everyone to open their heart and/or home to a homeless pet this holiday season. Visit Iamshome4theholidays.com for a myriad of ideas and ways to help orphaned pets. The goal is to raise awareness of this campaign and encourage those who are considering getting a pet around the Holiday season to choose one from a shelter rather than a pet store--and save a kitty life (or other-shelter-animal life) in the process. I salute Iams for this support of shelters.

This being said I need to ask Iam's a huge favor. Please stop animal testing in your Dayton Ohio laboratory. Iams has made progress, but as an industry leader, it must send an even clearer message: No animal deserves the fate of those who remain in their laboratories. Safe, healthy cat and dog food does not require harming cats and dogs.

This is probably not going to make me popular with the very nice lady that asked me to do a post about the Home For The Holidays campaign and I am sorry for that. But I have to be true to my beliefs about how manufacturers produce their food.

If you can find it in your heart and have room in your home, please consider making one little kitty or doggie a part of it. Thanks.

I came from a shelter at Christmas three years ago! My mum and dad were very lucky I picked them, I think. I like your message Parker, well done.

Mom was helping select a new shelter kitty to sponsor, this time from our local shelter. There are so many cats, kittens, dogs and woofies needing good homes. Although Mom doesn't usually recommend adopting at Christmas because of all the extra excitement, we hope lots of homeless animals find new Forever Homes!

We didn't know Iams kept cats and dogs in laboratories to test their food. We are very disappointed in them and hope they take notice that it is wrong.

Ohh Miss Parker you made-ed my and Mommas day!!!
We feel very VERY strongly about what Iams do and tell everyboddie not to buy their foods... I do not go into details coz Momma nearly up chucked when she read about it... who would be sick enough to leave a gaping hole in an animal to test for it's digestibility...
It is very good to stick to your beliefs! :)
And I thinks you said it very well. we would not have been so kind :)

I didn't know that. That's the type of food I came home with from the shelter.

I am glad to be in a forever home for the Holidays.

Great post, Parker!

Dearest Parker,
We agree with you 100%. All of us came from shelters or foster homes.

We hope you have a very nice Monday, Parker!

Very truly yours,

It's us back again. We read your link and also googled 'Iams pets in laboratories'. We were disgusted with the conditions these poor animals are kept in and will never buy Iams. The trouble is that mum buys us Royal Canin sensible 33 after Eric was getting sick, and they are not on the list of producers who say they do not keep animals in laboratories, so we have to assume they do the same. Mum is going to try and find out more about RC and if she can't get the right answer, she will change our food again.

Parker, we salute you on staying true to your principles. Some things are too awful to turn a blind eye to.

Hi Parker, we will have to get 3 new Christmas stockings for our 3 family members that have joined us since last Christmas...Cecilia and Bennette were strays (who didn't have to end up in a shelter) and my Grete dog came from the county pound (what was a nice girl doing in that concrete kennel...?!). My momma and I came from foster care...
We don't use Iams, and when that whole pet food scare came about, my mom researched as best she could to find food that didn't do testing and didn't come from Menu Foods...what a horrible situation that was. She wanted to cook all of our food, but that was too much for her.

Purrs and headbutts to all homeless kitties and doggies out there, wishing they will find a forever home soon.

Mom used to buy us Iams foods until she heard that they test on animals. We do not use anything that is tested on animals!

Thank you so much for the wonderful card you sent to us. It brought tears to Mom's eyes!

Thank you for trying to help cats and dogs find a home for the holidays. And we also applaud you for letting everyone know about the animal testing IAMS does.

We are all rescues, so finding homes for other cats and dogs is very important to us. ~S,S & C

YOU is rite to feel the way you do about the IAMS animal testing. WE could not believe it when we saw what they did...it is too harsh for our whittle kitty ears to speak of. WE wish efurryone would boycott their foods until they quit this inhumane treatment!
Thank you for sharing this.

Wonderful post, Parker on both subjects!

We have been feeding yet another feral and hope to trap him soon to be neutered. We hope a lot of shelter animals get forever homes, too.

Parker it is important to be honest about things and telling everyone what is really going on -- the good and bad is important.

YEAH PARKER!!! We had stopped using all Procter & Gamble products over a few years now since we discovered the news about Iams and their testing. Mommy even sent them emails and they did not deny but said they were going to change their testing .....guess they didn't!!!! This is sad and very UN-necessary!!!! Mommy has even advised pet owners while shopping and also about the glutins and corn in pet products. Corn is not easily digested even in humans...but, they use them as fillers. So far, Mommy is happy with Merrick and our favorite is the Thanksgiving Dinner which mommy orders by the cases...usually 15 an order!!! I think we are stocked for the winter=^Y^=the Cat Street Boyz

Way to go, Parker! I totally support you. Everyfurry and bean should respect your beliefs and not get mad just because you pointed out that someone is doing something wrong. Especially to us furries. Smooches to you, Parker!

You go, Parker! I am very proud of you for spreading word about this great cause, but also standing up for your beliefs. I hope many shelter cats and dogs will find Forever homes for the holidays.

Thank you for the information about Iams... it's so disappointing that they test that way.

Thank you Parker. We have been furry conflikted about doing a post as well, 'acause we wants efurry homeless pet to find a home, but we is so mad at Iams for doing animal testing. So far, our being mad has outweighed making a post. we will haf to think more harder about this.

Excellent post Parker.

It's good that you say what you feel! Iams is a good company that needs to make some big changes - but we're glad that they're trying to help all the homeless woofies and kitties out there.

Oh and Mommy says that you guys are crazy brave for flying your colors on Sunday - she went to the mall and forgot that she was wearing her grey shirt and red vest, boy did she get the stink eye!

Forty Paws said...

There you go. We knew about IAMs doing animal testing.

It is good to adopt shelter animals. And don't forget that Petco and PetsMart have poodins and woofies from shelters and rescue groups only. Most of the smaller stores don't have rescue groups and buy their animals from breeders and awful stuff like that. We hope many of the homeless animals find homes because a lot of animals have been abandoned this year because of the economy. This is very sad news.

Parker, thank you for being so honest. You are one brave cat! We heard about Iams (and Eukanuba's) testing aswell and, honestly, aren't eating it for that reason. It really is important that they change the situation in those laboratories.

P.S.: Please pass along my apologies to Rudy: In my inexperienced youth I thought he was a girlcat. I didn't mean to offend him, it's just that I thought someone that handsome must be a girlcat. Please don't be cross with me Rudy!
